19/05: Motorola MPx220 firmware upgrade

Motorola MPx220 firmware comming soon
When buying Motorola MPx220 you must be very careful because it has been not released commercially yet and you may get it with old firmware with NO UPGRADE POSSIBILTY! Motorola MPx220 firmware - new versions - will be available only through operators (if at all). So better wait and buy Motorola MPx220 with latest firmware - when it will be officially released.
A second firmware upgrade has been completed by Motorola and is currently being QA'ed by Cingular with acceptance predicted in the upcoming week. This upgrade is expected to resolve the issues of the phone freezing on shutdown (no more yanking the battery!)

A third upgrade is expected to go to Cingular in about a week - that one specifically addresses the lack of a functioning voicemail icon in the NY market (and, apparently Washington DC).
These ROM updates are expected to be cumulative, so she recommended waiting a few weeks to get the phone flashed or swapped.

Finally, she said there have been LOTS of requests for user-installable flash files. She indicated that Motorola recognizes the uniqueness of this phone in that everyone who has it already has a USB data cable. The engineers are working on a wrap-around program for the ROM files which will, hopefully, allow them to post updates on a website (like they do for other non-cellular hardware) and permit users to update their own phones without needing special software or needing any special expertise. This is an area where she sounded hopeful, but couldn't give me any degree of certainty as to timing."
So hopefully the firmware will be available online for those who purchased the unit and brought it oversea.
